Back Pain
Back problems are the one of the most common reasons for chronic disability. Back pain can significantly impact and limit your life and everyday activities. it is important to identify what type of back pain you are suffering from in order to have success with treatment.
There are several common conditions related to back pain, including:
- Strains and sprains: These are the most common causes of back pain and can be caused by overuse, lifting heavy objects, or sudden movements.
- Herniated or bulging discs: These occur when the soft tissue between the vertebrae in the spine pushes out and puts pressure on the nerves in the back, causing pain and other symptoms.
- Spinal stenosis: This condition occurs when the spinal canal narrows, putting pressure on the spinal cord and nerves and causing pain, numbness, and weakness.
- Facet Syndrome: Facet syndrome occurs when the facet joints become inflamed or irritated, often due to degenerative changes or injury. This can cause pain and stiffness in the affected area of the spine, and may also lead to muscle spasms, weakness, and limited range of motion.
- Sciatica: This condition occurs when the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back down to the legs, becomes compressed or irritated, causing pain, numbness, and tingling in the back and legs.
Although pain is common to these conditions, we find that the condition is often a clue to the underlying cause of the problem.
Chiropractors can help with back pain by using a variety of techniques, including:
- Spinal adjustments: We use use spinal adjustments to help realign the vertebrae in the spine, reduce pressure on the nerves, improve movement and relieve pain.
- Soft tissue therapy: Chiropractors may use soft tissue therapy such as muscle release techniques or stretching, to loosen tight muscles like the hip flexors, gluteal muscles and pelvic stabilizers. This can often provide back relief and improved blood flow to the area.
- Exercise therapy: We may prescribe exercises to help strengthen the muscles in the back and improve mobility.
- Lifestyle changes: As holistic chiropractors we provide advice on lifestyle changes, such as proper posture, ergonomics, prolonged sitting strategies, weight issues, allergies and more to help reduce the risk of back pain and improve overall health.
It’s important to note that the specific treatment approach used by a chiropractor will depend on the individual patient’s condition and needs. If you’re experiencing back pain or discomfort, it’s a good idea to speak with a chiropractor or another healthcare professional to determine the best course of treatment for your specific needs.
