Holistic Approaches to Healing

Our office helps people take a holistic approach to their health.

What does this mean?  Sometimes when we think about taking control of our health, images of deprivation come up in our mind.  We think that we have to engage in things that we don’t particularly enjoy doing (ex. eliminating foods we like) and we are denying ourselves of what we are accustomed to.  However, we also know that if we want to…

  1. Get out of pain
  2. Have more energy
  3. Eliminate stress

something has to change.  The basis of a holistic approach is to help you determine what changes will be most effective to help you move forward with your life.  Let’s take an example.

What’s causing your headaches?

A person comes into the office with headaches.  How do we know if the headaches are caused by…

  1. An alignment issue in the neck
  2. An allergen
  3. Emotional stress
  4. Any number of combinations

The beauty of taking a holistic approach involves diving into these factors and determining which of them are contributing or causing the person’s problem.  This approach is different from concluding that every headache has the same cause and therefore, everyone should be treated in the same way (i.e. If the only tool you have is a hammer, then everything becomes a nail).

By taking a thorough inquiry of the person’s life, we start to understand that symptoms may have multiple contributors.  A holistic approach takes those factors into account and works with the person to determine the best course of action to alleviate the symptoms, while also addressing the facts that lead to the symptoms in the first place.
